AgroTerra is ready for seeding

29.03.2022

AgroTerra Group is fully prepared for the start of the farming season 2022/2023. According to Sergey Stenin, Operational Director, the company’s 24 farms will start seeding when the weather turns favorable.

“The seeding season starts when the snow cover comes off the fields. In the Central Black-Earth Region, we usually begin to seed at the end of March or in early April. This year, the snow cover is thick. We expect it to melt completely by the first week of April. We plan to get into the fields with machinery then. Our Engineering service has already carried out repairs and adjusted the machinery. So, we are on track to start the spring farm works. Our farms in Kursk will probably start first, as they always do.”

Despite certain disruptions in the global supply chain, AgroTerra has prepared for the seeding according to the plan. "We have fully purchased all the necessary seeds, crop protection, and fertilizers. Nevertheless, we are working on scenarios in case some crop protection products become unavailable in Russia by relying on the world-class field trials performed by our Technology Development Center. Every season our experts from the Center test various seed varieties, hybrids and technologies. Since 2015 the Center has conducted thousands of field trials in our regions of presence to find the most productive seeds and the most efficient technologies. The work never stops. As we speak, our agronomists, together with analysts, are working with the data collected and planning our future field trials. As to spare parts for the machinery, we are exploring the possibility of using Russian or Chinese substitutes," – says Sergey Stenin.

AgroTerra continues to hire personnel. Apart from offering stable income and regular season-end bonuses, the company conducts internal and external training programs for its employees. According to Sergey Stenin, AgroTerra highly values its personnel and does not plan any layoffs.

“AgroTerra is a resilient company with a finely-tuned management system. Whatever weather scenario unfolds, we are ready. For example, to reseed winter crops, as we did last year. Despite the abundance of snow in the current season, we cannot completely exclude the risk of crops being frozen due to the low temperatures. In this case, we have a stock of spring wheat and soybean seeds to reseed the winter crops,” – clarifies Sergey Stenin.

AgroTerra does not plan change the structure of seeded areas in the new season. Sergey summarizes: "Wheat, soy, sunflower, sugar beet, corn, rapeseed, and barley continue to be our main crops. This year we will increase the production of rapeseed, winter wheat for seed, and spring wheat for seed. We will also continue to develop our expertise in soybean seed production by improving our own seed processing infrastructure facilities, increasing capacity, and improving quality. For example, we have recently installed a seed photo separator: it will allow us to achieve even greater purity of our seeds."
