2022 will bring new challenges and, it will not be easy for the agricultural industry to meet those. Nevertheless, investments in development will allow companies to survive despite the export restrictions and growing inputs costs. The conference “Russian Agrokholdings – 2021” held by “Agroinvestor” gathered the representatives of large agricultural companies to hear their plans for the future. Valery Redkin, Director of the Technology Development Center of AgroTerra, also participated in the conference.

“The crop growers say every year that, ‘This year was difficult and very different from past years. Next year will be the same ’”, commented ironically the Director of the Technology Development Center of AgroTerra. AgroTerra estimates the results of the year, as pretty positive, since the base scenario included throwback prices for the crops. “But a very dangerous situation for crop growers may appear in the future because the prices for fertilizers, seeds, and protection protocols continue to grow <…>. Wheat and soybeans are exchange-traded commodities. It means that the growth of prices is followed by the decline, which is normal”, - said Valery Redkin. He thinks that the prices for products will decline sooner or later. The question is whether the costs for inputs will decrease or not. If it is not going to happen, the crop growers risk facing the price scissors when costs for inputs grow while prices for products decline.

AgroTerra is getting ready for it. The Сompany focuses on producing value-added crops, for example, high-oleic sunflower. AgroTerra works with the data accumulated over the years to invest effectively, sees the potential in selecting efficient varieties and hybrids, reducing CO₂ emissions, popularizing agricultural education, and using modern technologies.
