AgroTerra completes harvesting spring crops
Some farms in the AgroTerra Group of companies have already completed harvesting spring crops. Due to the weather and higher yields, the harvesting speed slows down, but the company successfully copes with it. The first harvesting results show that the yields increased by 11% compared to planned figures.
On August 24, AgroTerra farms in the Kursk region (Bunino and Manturovo) completed harvesting of spring wheat. In the rest of the company's fields, the harvest is still underway. Sergey Stenin, Operations Director, says that this year the harvesting campaign is more difficult than usual:
"The first thing to mention is the large number of pests due to the mild winter. We have recorded weevils in sugar beet, burdocks, and even meadow moth on soybeans and sunflower, which hasn't been seen in the Central Black-Earth region in over a decade. Only timely monitoring and prompt measures that we took helped us detect risks on time and eliminate them. To process crops, we used both traditional and new methods, such as spraying sunflowers with drones.
The second difficulty was the weather. The cool and rainy spring had a positive effect on winter crops but affected spring crops. The plants grew slower, and the maturation period was delayed by two weeks on average. As a result, we had to harvest both winter and spring crops at the same time. So we used our own machinery and leased it. We successfully dealt with the challenges, and it was a whole team effort".
The company expected difficulties during harvesting and planned accordingly. Before harvesting began, all regions of AgroTerra's presence held staff exercises for elevators and farms. During the staff exercises, employees planned field works and worked through potential scenarios.
Moreover, AgroTerra launched a new motivational program for production workers at the beginning of the season to increase their engagement. The company marks the best farms with the "Best Result" flag after each main production stage is completed, and it also gives bonuses to the best employees.
AgroTerra is completing the harvesting of spring crops now and preparing for the harvesting of oilseeds. So far, except for certain areas, the weather is favorable for the future harvest.
